I learned how to Skype! Can you believe it? Props to ProZD, Blue an' Pimmy for tolerating me. Fandubs are ridiculously fun, why haven't I gotten in on this sooner? For shame. Gumshoe manages to both ruin everything and make it infinetly more enjoyable. How does that even work?
My day off work today was spent mostly reading, oddly enough. I need to use my spare time more efficiently for that sort of thing, instead of waiting around for my breaks at work!
I read through Angels & Demons (thank you, coworker who lent it to me) because I have this rule about reading books before seeing movies (of which I think I'll see on the weekend). Yeah, it's not Dostoyevsky, but it's fun, dangit! I liked it more than The Da Vinci Code, if that means anything.
Not sure if I felt all 。・゚・(*ノД`*)・゚・。ウワァァン about the ending or not. It was like... Hang on! Book-babble cut, GO.
I know I was definetly all fired up during a big chunk approaching the end! It's like "LOOK OUT" "HERE COMES THE BAD GUY" "IT'S A TRAP YOU FOOLS" "DO SOMETHING DO SOMETHING DO SOMETHING" "OH NO OH NO OH NO" "EVERYONE IS A SPY" "DEATH MEANS I'LL KILL YOU" "HURRY UP I'M SERIOUS", though as one crisis came and went I became a little more subdued.
I was certainly prepared to get angry if they pulled a "Now I can use my evil voice" sort of scene! But truth and honesty and justice and alarmingly-misguided goodness prevail! ...Wait, huh?
I guess it didn't feel like a "Now I can use my evil voice" scene, 'cause that would have more of a "Fools, you have played right into my hands! >8D" vibe and such. It was prolly more akin to "hey guys hey guys I made everything better isn't that great why are you all looking at me like that".
It was enjoyable trying to figure out what was going to happen. I've noticed my mind tends to wander to the craziest or most illogical solution first, so no wonder I'm almost always wrongexcept when reading The Fountainhead. KABOOM. Actually, no, for books like this, it's less reasoning what might happen in the future and more reasoning what's going to happen right this second, like watching a TV show! Fitting, since books play out like cartoons in my head...
It's like "oh no, don't be a martyr and run to the bottom! no wait that would destroy architecture nevermind" "plot device time! to the helicopter!" "no dangit you're supposed to drop it what is this noise" "follow him! at 800 miles an hour! in the dark! for precious parachute! fine don't listen to me!" "oh crap incredibly blatant foreshadowing" "whew everyone's going to be okay and live happily ever after! but why are there still a bunch of pages left" "DUN DUN DUUUN" "twist of a twist of a twist" "which one is evil I do not know" "fools! you infiltrate us, I infiltrate you! no? okay good" "oh crap incredibly blatant foreshadowing coming to fruition" "oh crap incredibly blatant foreshadowing coming to fruition with bonus religious symbology" "awkward fade to black go go go!"
I really liked the camerlengo! But somehow I think 。・゚・(*ノД`*) is probably Missing The Point. Can't we all be friends? Have your faith, and Mythbusters too? Or something?
I've only read this and The Da Vinci Code, but Mr. Brown seems to be awfully fond of Chekhov's Gun, whether he realizes it or not. You can almost hear the dramatic chords of "DUN DUN DUUUN" in your head as you read along, too. Subtlety what? Oh, and all the mention of architecture and sculptures and artists almost made me want to whip out my art history textbook instead of having my imagination throw everything together, but then I remembered that stuff is boring, so no.
This book really needed an epilogue with someone walking into the Vatican Library :'( You know what I mean! Comedy.
I managed to buy Devil Summoner 2, woo! I've been wanting to try the first one for the longest time, but, y'know, sizeable print runs for Atlus games are a ridiculous notion indeed! Hey, I managed to get the version with the plush doll, bonus!
I haven't tried it out yet, though, since my bro and then my dad have been in the basement (with all the game consoles) all evening. Tomorrow, when I won't be interrupted by family! I think! Ahh, I noticed in the manual that you're supposed to name the main character, first & last, like Persona 3. If I'm smart, I'll start thinking of names now, and not as soon as I load the game up. How much of my life have I spent staring blankly at name entry screens? It's apalling, is what it is.
...Backpedaling time! What do I read next? I go nuts if I don't keep a book with me whenever I leave the house, but I've been thinking of so many different titles to read, I can't seem to settle on just one! Ooh, I think the new Pendergast book should be out by now! Though that would require a trip to the bookstore. Maybe after saturday morning tea? And I'll reread the previous book in the meantime! Splendid! Ohh, if any main characters die in this one, I'm gonna...!
